Lost In Translation

I have one word for this movie - awesome. Although I thought Return Of the King deserved the Best Picture Oscar hands down, this film would have been my second choice. It is just brilliant and incredibly enjoyable for many reasons. It is romantic without being cheesy, funny without being stupid and serious without being melodramatic. The whole film just feels right and it leaves you quite satisfied. Both Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson are wonderful and have great chemistry together.

I feel sorry for Bill Murray for not getting the Best Actor Oscar. His performance in Lost In Translation was subtle and quite enjoyable. It is also worth noting that Scarlett is incredibly cute throughout. In my opinion, Her appearance at the Oscars wasn't all that dazzling. She looks much better as a regular person as in the film without layers of unneeded makeup and artificial looking blonde hair.

Watch this movie and enjoy it. It reminds me how great and comforting another understanding person can be.

With respect, I thought ... well, pretty much the opposite. Full disclosure: I did what I never do with rented movies, which was to pull it out of the player before it was finished. The beginning was fine, funny, clever, somewhat subtle. Up until somewhere around the "she joins husband in bar with blonde and geek" ... but then it seemed so predictable, so redundant ... that I finally pulled it around 1 hr. 10 min. Just couldn't fathom spending another half hour. I have no problem with fine and delicate and somewhat obscure films that make me think -- and I loved S. Coppola's The Virgin Suicides -- but this was purposeless.

Thanks for your courtesy in letting my rant on a bit. I'm glad you found it wonderful. Eye of beholder, and all that.

Cheers.

It's all a matter of opinion. Some movies appeal to different people in different ways. If everyone liked all the same things we'd all be very boring.
