This is a little disturbing. How can the U.S. ever expect to pay off their debt? You can't procrastinate it forever. War after war, tax-cut after tax-cut, they are always spending more and never paying it down. It has to be paid sometime.

The U.S. doesn't have to pay off its debt because, unlike individuals, it doesn't have a life expectancy. Take a macro economics class.
Well yes there is that, and that the U.S. is acquiring capital. When you go in debt to aquire capital, you're still ok. The U.S. isn't the only one who does this.
I guess I don't know my economics, but something about always spending like this and never paying it down rubs me the wrong way.
I guess I should do some more research before I pass judgement.
Erik, the U.S. government may not have a life expectancy, but who are they in debt to? Many people, like pensioners DO have a life expectancy and governments DO have to pay part of their debts to them. They can't just never pay.
Also, like any other debt, there are terms of repayment. They don't have forever.
